Profile Image Upload Size

Post by broko » Wed Jan 15, 2020 10:07 am

Title says it all.

I know there must be reasons why it's so low and I know there's an easy switch to change it, but I think it'd be good for the forum.

I agree. The limit is 6kb which is way too low in 2020. In my opinion the best solution would be to use server side downscaling so that the users does not have to think about filesizes / image resolutions at all.

I up'd the avatar file size from 6K to 10K. You guys must really like bloated avatars!

Thank you! Yeah, I know it's a bit small, but it'll make avatars a little bit easier to work with.

Well, I tried downscaling my avatar down to 10kb and it simply becomes pixel art and you can barely see anything. Please, up the limit to 20kb. I'm trying my best to somehow compress it and still be usable but I can't do it

Why not just use GIMP? Then you don't have to rely on any third party services.

I don't know how to use gimp.
Gimp *is* third party. Most software people use on Linux is third party.

Third party services
GIMP is not a service
Software you run on your own computer are not services.

I never said it was a service. Just that it's third party.
And I was really just trying to help anyway in the first place. I don't care if people use it or not.
If you don't like third party services, then don't use it I guess.
