Going GNOME free

Post by Ethanol » Sun Jun 21, 2020 5:21 am

Based on the recent DT video about GNOME I'm interested in challenging myself to de-GNOME my system. This isn't meant to be political or anything, Linux has been appropriated to spread divisive politics enough already, but rather an exercise to discover new and underrated Linux projects.

I suppose I could just replace everything with EMACS but that's not nearly as adventurous as what I had envisioned.

I'm thinking anything directly connected to GNOME is off the table and, for a truely spiteful twist, any project or organisation that supports the GNOME foundation is off the table as well.

I'm interested to see if there is a way to do this while still maintaining a familiar desktop paradigm.

Any advice or known solutions anyone has tried already?
