Re: Which distro?

Though Debian isn't my preferred distro either it's unfortunate that you wouldn't want try something Debian based such as Linux Mint, which I would consider the best distro for new users. Other than that I would suggest the use of Fedora. Fedora does a lot to stay out of the users way but I feel tha...

Re: did i kill my USB stick using CP?

Now the problem is when i wanted to check if the iso was fine. I couldn't see my usb stick in the lbslk command. It was simply invisible. fdisk -l had the same outcome. i checked through dmesg and i can see the usb pluged. I see it as well when using lsusb. I tried to play it smart. I tried to used...

Re: Password managers, do you use one?

I was discussing this topic with colleagues the other day as password managers may also be risky (Who manages the password manager's password? What if I lose the password DB ? What if it is leaked ?). I was curious since one of my colleague claimed not to use one and to have a different password fo...

Re: What's your dream linux laptop?

I may get a ton of flak for this but my dream would be a macbook running linux. The quality of the screens, speakers, touch pad, chassis, and keyboard (I dare to defend the butterfly) are top notch! Beyond dreams there are only a few real world options for good laptops that can run linux in my opini...

Re: Going GNOME free

KDE I am in the same position as OP however I have to admit KDE is a much bigger pain to use than Gnome. I am actually irritated by the amount of customization KDE offers and the way they present those options. Having to drill down through a "hundred" menus to change all of the various style/functi...

Re: Password managers, do you use one?

I do not actually use a password manager. I just keep all of my unique professional and personal passwords in my head and slowly lose my sanity. Thinking about that, not having a password manager could actually be an effective way of securing your accounts. If you can't remember your passwords then ...

Re: What method/tools do you use to do backups?

Personally I haven't got any backups for my arch system, however I know I should and would like to hear others thoughts on what they use to do so. Also how often do you like to backup your system? Unfortunately for nix systems it seems backups are very much still a manual, thought out process. The ...

Re: What operating system do you use for servers?

I use generally stick to centos because I use redhat at work so it makes life easy when I get home and don't really have to think about it.
